We welcome you to our period thatched self-catering cottages, located within our farmstead and situated by the main Grade II listed 16th century farmhouse and ancient listed Somerset stone thatched barns. The farmstead is set in a tranquil, rural hamlet nestled at the foot of the Quantock Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The two cottages offer an unprecedented position on the Quantock Hills with part of the farmstead being designated as a site of Special Scientific Interest.
Situated in Halsway, near Crowcombe, West Somerset, it is an ideal base to explore the unspoilt Quantock Hills, Exmoor National Park and the North Devon coastline. There is an abundance of iconic places to visit, such as medieval towns and castles, National Trust Gardens and stately homes including Coleridge's cottages on our doorstep, an award winning steam railway and harbour villages with fishing trips. There's also a variety of fun days out for families at local adventure parks, animal farms, museums and caves.
The Quantock Hills, which homes native red deer and wild ponies, are famous for their beautiful scenery offering endless walking, mountain biking and riding experiences. You will come across deep valleys cut into the hills by streams and sheltered ancient woodland; look out for huge old oak trees and the famous whortleberry! Our nearby local beaches are great fun for fossil hunting and there is always a 'cream tea' nearby to complete the day.
We are fortunate to have some delightful, child-friendly country pubs on our doorstep offering rustic pub food and local ales in front of open log fires, tea shops serving our well-known and much loved cream teas as well as idyllic areas for family picnics on those sunny days. With deep blue skies in the day and amazing uninterrupted stars covering the dark sky at night (with star constellations in abundance on a good night), this is a truly wonderful, relaxing place to come and holiday.
Both of our cottages are 5* graded by English Country Cottages and are fully equipped including open log fires and inviting, cozy home-from-home comforts. The cottages, which boast magnificent views from every window, are surrounded by mature English country gardens with little leats, streams and luscious fields. The Gardeners Cottage has its own private garden, ideal for summer evening BBQ's and the Coach House has a secluded lawn with stream offering a peaceful area in which to relax and watch the evening sun set.
As part of the package, the Gardeners Cottage offers you the options of having your own chickens and /or pony. The hens will be in an enclosed hen house situated at the end of the garden and the pony will be stabled nearby. Further information can be found on The Gardeners Cottage page.
Also available for our guests is full use of our outdoor swimming pool, charming gardens and even quiet fishing on our small lake within the grounds of the farmstead. For those guests wishing to explore the hills on horseback, we would be happy to arrange a hack from our Riding School which is quietly situated across the lane. Mountain biking can be arranged with a local company and if you enjoy a round of golf, we are fortunate to have a good choice of golf courses in our area. Not far away is Wimbelball Lake which offers sailing, rowing, windsurfing and canoeing activities/tuition. It also offers trout fishing, with angling from the banks or boats.
We generally have a 'no dogs' policy but allowances are considered for polite, well behaved dogs in the Coach House only. There will be an additional fee of £30 per week for dogs. Please call to discuss further.
Upon your arrival we will be here to greet you and make sure you settle into your cottage and have all that you need. There will be a complimentary tea and cake also, which we hope will help you relax into what will be a carefree and memorable stay with us.
We also offer short breaks which can be booked any time of year. Whatever the season, come and enjoy this unspoilt area in all its splendour!
